New
President's
Message
by Angie
Kemp, CPCE
I’d like
to express my
gratitude to
San
Diego NACE.
Getting involved
has allowed
my career in
the hospitality
industry to
grow at a pace
faster than
I imagined,
but nothing
I can’t
handle.
It
was a little
over 5 years
ago when I attended
my first NACE
meeting with
Judy
Pratt.
She asked me
to help collect
ballots, as
it was election
night. And now
here I am, serving
as your Chapter
President, thanks
to all of you,
and of course,
thanks to Tracey
Amernick.
Tracey
has
mentored me
over the last
couple years
to become president
and I am blessed
and grateful
for this opportunity.
Thank
you Tracey,
for the encouraging
words, continued
support, and
the silver platter
with the little
blue box.
The
true driving
force behind
the San
Diego Chapter
of NACE
is the amazing
and talented
Board
members.
It has been
an honor to
be among such
an energetic
group of people
and I am looking
forward to spending
more time with
them next year.
They're hard
at work developing
innovative
new programs
for 2008.
The Board’s
abilities and
creativity is
astounding -
It’s
going to be
a great year!
Finally,
I want to thank
you all as members.
You are the
heart
of this association
and my goal
is that the
educational
opportunities,
networking possibilities
and exposure
to new experiences
and ideas will
inspire
you to reach
your definition
of success,
both professionally
and personally.

Our
photographs
in December
were taken by
our newest member,
Shannon
Henry who
came to San
Diego by way
of Lake Tahoe
and the East
Coast. Her love
of photography
began as a high-school
infatuation.
An aficionado
of dance, theatre,
and art, Shannon
assumed photography
would also be
a lifelong hobby.
Once she immersed
herself in photography
courses, though,
she felt at
home, and photography
quickly became
more than a
pastime.
Her
keen
eye and vivaciousness
make her a natural
wedding photographer.
Her appreciation
for art and
beauty reflects
in the emotions
she captures.
Through photography,
Shannon
finds creative
fulfillment
and joy that
she is thrilled
to share with
others.

| As
lead vocalist
for The
Fabulous Ultratones
Judy Malings
brings a lot of
prior experience.
Before arriving
in San Diego in
1998, Judy was
a familiar voice
in the San Francisco
Bay Area. A former
cast member of
America's longest
running musical
revue, Beach
Blanket Babylon,
her act was seen
regularly in SF
as well as The
Rose Tattoo in
Los Angeles and
Rascals in Houston.
Judy fronted and
wrote for the
8-piece band Shake
City
that for years
appeared at Bay
Area clubs and
festivals. More
recently Judy
was the lead vocalist
for the popular
dance band In
Disguise,
and was the featured
artist at the
Air Force Sergeants
convention. Two
of her original
songs have been
published by
Excursion Music
in Nashville,
and two more were
selected for the
CD Stand Proud,
a compilation
by San Diego musicians
to benefit the
victims of the
World Trade Center.
Judy’s original
songs can be heard
on the peer-review
site Broadjam.com,
where her songs
are often listed
in the ‘top
ten’. |

2007:
Toy Drive
We
filled up their
box, plus some that
didn't fit in...

'estimate' we collected
over 100 toys, not
to mention the money
we collected from
the sale of the

U.S.
MARINE CORPS RESERVE
TOYS FOR TOTS PROGRAM:
http://www.toydrive.com/index.html
MISSION: The mission
of the U.S. Marine
Corps Reserve Toys
for Tots Program
is to collect new,
unwrapped toys during
October, November
and December each
year and distribute
those toys as Christmas
gifts to needy children
in the community
in which the campaign
is conducted.
GOAL: The primary
goal of Toys for
Tots is to deliver,
through a shiny
new toy at Christmas,
a message of hope
to needy youngsters
that will motivate
them to grow into
responsible, productive,
patriotic citizens
and community leaders.
OBJECTIVES: The
objectives of Toys
for Tots are to
help needy children
throughout the United
States experience
the joy of Christmas;
to play an active
role in the development
of our nation's
most valuable natural
resource - our children;
to unite all members
of local communities
in a common cause
for three months
each year during
the annual toy collection
and distribution
campaign; to contribute
to better communities
in the future.
ACTIVITIES: The
principal Toys for
Tots activities
which take place
each year are the
collection and distribution
of toys in the communities
in which a Marine
Corps Reserve Unit
is located and in
the communities
without a Reserve
Unit that has a
Marine Corps League
Detachment or group
of men and women,
generally veteran
Marines, authorized
by Marine Toys for
Tots Foundation
to conduct a local
Toys for Tots campaign.
Local Toys for Tots
Campaign Coordinators
conduct an array
of activities throughout
the year, which
include golf tournament,
foot races, bicycle
races and other
purely voluntary
events designed
to increase interest
in Toys for Tots,
and concurrently
generate toy and
monetary donations.
